Edmund Rice Camp - African Family Camp.
In September 2013, I was privileged to be a part of the African Family Camp. During the week, I was able to work one on one with a child, being their buddy. As the child's buddy, you played games with them, followed them around the camp, sat next to them at meal times and became their friend for the day. As this was a family camp, their were mothers on the camp as well, we were also able to become their buddies and have a sit and chat about their children. The aspect that I enjoyed most about the camp was the positive attitudes of both the participants on camp and all the volunteers. I made friendships that will last a lifetime. The most important thing I learnt about camp was that having a positive attitude and developing relationships with the children is critical to their involvement in tasks. Below I have attached the community engagement booklet along with my report forms.
