St Aloysius Primary School, Redan. Grade Four/Five.
In Term Four, 2013, I completed a four week block of placement in Grade Four/Five at St Aloysius Primary School, Redan. I completed this placement is the last four weeks of Term Four, which is a very busy time. This provided me with an opportunity to see some different activities rather than classroom teaching. I spent a full day on Grade Four camp at Log Cabin Camp in Creswick. During this time I was also able to sit in on multiple Student Support Group (SSG) meetings. I am very interested in supporting students who are funded and/or have specific learning needs. Throughout the four weeks, I was exposed to many other school events such as end of year excursions, Grade Six graduation, Grade Five leadership speeches and the whole school concert. There were three senior classes at the school, where the three teachers worked collaboratively together on planning. For their Term Four Inquiry unit, the senior classes had been learning about productions and how to assemble one. Students were divided into groups according to a different area of the production for example lighting, music, costumes, props etc. In these small groups, students had designed that area of the senior school concert piece. Over the four weeks while I was there, a lot of time was spent finishing and perfecting the fine details of each group. Through this, I was able to take classes with students from Grade Four, Five and Six. During this placement, I attended regular staff meetings and collaborative classroom planning sessions with the three senior teachers. Throughout this placement, I was exposed to iPads and a computer lab that catered for the whole class. The teachers and students were preapring themselves for a shift to one-to-one iPads for all Grade Five and Grade Six students. Throughout this placement, I was given the opportunity to teach lessons in Mathematics and English, as well as as a lesson on Ethical understanding. Below I have included some artifacts from my placement including my report form and guideline booklet.
