Impact of the Digital Age on Education
It is clearly evident that the digital age is upon us and it is expected that we as teachers will use Information and Communications Technology (ICT) in our classroom. In the Australian Curriculum, ICT is a general capability. This means that teachers are expected to use ICT across all subject areas in the lessons they teach. It is important that teachers use ICT as a tool and not just a resource used for "early finishers" or "busy work". Through using technology, students should be developing skills such as creativity, communication and collaboration. It is important as teachers to ensure that we do not assume that every student in our class will have access to the technology required. It is essential to ensure that E-Safety has been taught in the classroom before allowing students to use technology because although technology can be amazing with how it can enhance students learning abilities, it can also be very dangerous.
